And gracious, because he is gracious to those who turn in repentance to his law: At the beginning of this verse the phrase “the Most High is called” is implied from verse 132. This phrase is also implied at the beginning of verses 134-136. Good News Bible makes this phrase explicit here by beginning with “He is called,” which other languages may find helpful. Gracious may be rendered “compassionate” or “shows great love” (Contemporary English Version). Turn in repentance to his law may be translated “repent [from their sins] and obey his Law.” Good News Bible provides a helpful model for this verse.
