For the age has lost its youth, and the times begin to grow old: Compare verse 17 and 2 Esd 5.50-55. Again the connector For may be omitted (so Good News Bible, Contemporary English Version). The age has lost its youth means “The world is no longer young” (Good News Bible). And the times begin to grow old has a similar meaning. For this whole verse Contemporary English Version has the following model:
• This world isn’t young any more; it is growing old.
