When Alcimus saw that Judas and those with him had grown strong: Grown strong means that Judas and his men had become powerful militarily.
And realized that he could not withstand them may be expressed as “and realized that he could not defeat them.”
He returned to the king and brought wicked charges against them: It will be helpful here to identify the king as Demetrius by saying “King Demetrius.” Good News Bible provides a helpful model for and brought wicked charges against them, saying “and accused them of great crimes.”
Good News Bible has only one sentence for this verse. A model that uses two sentences is:
• Judas and his men were growing more powerful, and Alcimus knew it. When he realized that he would not be able to stand against them [or, defeat them], he went back to King Demetrius and accused them of terrible crimes.
