So he gave his life to save his people: This clause should not present any difficulty for translators. See the Good News Bible model.
And to win for himself an everlasting name may be expressed as “and to gain eternal fame for himself,” “and he will never be forgotten” (Contemporary English Version), or “and because of this people will never forget him.”
Some translators may want to consider the possibility of combining verses 44-46, and placing this verse last. See the model at the end of the discussion on verse 46.
