Good News Bible begins a new paragraph here, although Revised Standard Version doesn’t start one until verse 48. Translators may follow Good News Bible‘s guide.
But Judas and his army advanced to the battle: The connector But should be kept. In spite of their fear, the Jews did not flee but marched forward to meet the Syrians. This clause may be rendered “But Judas and his troops [or, soldiers] still marched forward and attacked the Syrians.”
And six hundred men of the king’s army fell may be expressed as “and killed 600 [six hundred] of them [or, the enemy soldiers].”
