There was very great gladness among the people, and the reproach of the Gentiles was removed: Good News Bible does not express this verse correctly; it sounds like a second celebration is begun. A better model is:

• The people were very happy; they were [finally] free of the shame that the Gentiles had brought on them [or, caused them].
