Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael believed and were saved from the flame: Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael are usually known as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (see Dan 3.8-30). Believed is better translated “had faith” (Good News Bible), “maintained their faith” (Goldstein), or even “trusted Heaven.” And were saved from the flame may be expressed as “so the One in Heaven [or, he] saved [or, rescued] them from the flames.”
