Translation commentary on 1 Maccabees 16:9

At that time Judas the brother of John was wounded, but John pursued them until Cendebeus reached Kedron, which he had built: Good News Bible provides a workable model for this verse, if the reader will remember from verse 2 that Judas was John’s brother. Another way to begin is “John’s brother Judas was wounded in the battle, but John continued….”

A possible model that combines verses 8-9 is:

• Then the Jewish soldiers blew their war trumpets and attacked Cendebeus and his army. His soldiers ran away [or, retreated]. Many of them were killed or wounded. John’s brother Judas was also wounded, but John continued to pursue Cendebeus and his men until they escaped behind the walls of Kedron, which Cendebeus had fortified.
