We recommend that translators follow Good News Bible in continuing the paragraph, ending it at verse 40.

In view of these things King Demetrius confirmed him in the high priesthood: See the comments on 1Macc 13.36. The inscription apparently intends to say that the king confirmed the people’s selection of Simon as High Priest (verse 35). Demetrius did this before the events narrated in verses 1-3. In view of these things may be rendered “As a result” (Good News Bible) or “Because of the things that Simon accomplished.”
