Translation commentary on 1 Maccabees 10:88

A paragraph break is helpful here (so Good News Bible, Contemporary English Version).

When Alexander the king heard of these things: Heard of these things may be expressed as “heard what Jonathan had done” (Good News Bible), “heard about Jonathan’s victories,” or even “heard how Jonathan [and his army] had conquered Apollonius.”

He honored Jonathan still more: Jonathan had proved himself a loyal ally and supporter of King Alexander. The king had good reason to reward him with “greater honors” (Good News Bible). The honors are listed in the next verse.
