Translation commentary on 1 Kings 9:1

This new section begins in Hebrew with the verbal transition “And it came to pass” (Jewish Publication Version). Most modern versions omit this in translation.

At the beginning of this new chapter and new section, it may be advisable to use the title “King” when referring to Solomon (so Good News Translation).

As has been noted frequently in the preceding chapters, the house of the LORD refers to the Temple and the king’s house refers to the palace.

All that Solomon desired to build is literally “all the desire of Solomon that he desired to do/make.” This refers to the other building projects that he had undertaken.
