The might that he showed: Regarding the Hebrew noun rendered might, see the comments on verse 5 and 1 Kgs 15.23. The Good News Translation rendering “accomplishments” seems to be too general and misses the specific nuance of the Hebrew noun. Although the writer of 1 Kings says nothing about Omri’s military accomplishments, texts from Moab and Assyria indicate that he was a great warrior. Several ancient Assyrian documents refer to Israel as “the land of Omri.” In this context the Peregrino rendering “military exploits/deeds” almost certainly expresses the intended sense.
