Translation commentary on 1 Esdras 9:8

Now then make confession and give glory to the Lord the God of our fathers: Make confession and give glory to the Lord is literally “give confession glory to the Lord.” The parallel passage in Ezra 10.11 is literally “give praise to the LORD.” The Greek expressions for make confession and give glory to the Lord have almost the same meaning. Here give glory to the Lord is an idiom that means to confess one’s sins before the Lord (compare Josh 7.19; John 9.24). Our fathers refers to the ancestors of Israel. Good News Bible provides a good model for this verse.
