So: The Greek phrase that the Berean Standard Bible translates as So here introduces what Jesus said because his disciples wrongly understood him. Here are other ways to translate this phrase:

Jesus told them plainly: The word plainly here indicates that Jesus now spoke in plain, literal language. He did not speak about death figuratively. For example:

Jesus told them straight/clearly

Jesus explained so that they could understand

Lazarus is dead: Translate this clause using literal language. For example:

Lazarus has died. (God’s Word)
