Section 2:6-20
Yahweh pronounced judgement against the Babylonians
2:6a Will not all of these take up a taunt against him, speaking with mockery and derision:
Will not all these ⌊people⌋ begin to scorn him with insulting sayings and a mocking riddle/poem/song?
-or-
All ⌊the people whom the Babylonians took away by force⌋ will begin to mock them and show how much they despise them.
-or-
“But all ⌊the conquered people⌋ will laugh at ⌊the Babylonians/conquerors. They⌋ will make fun of them.
2:6b ‘Woe to him who amasses what is not his
⌊This is what they will say,⌋ “You (sing.) will suffer, you who increase your possessions with things that do not belong to you!
-or-
⌊They will say that⌋ you (plur.) made yourself wealthy by taking what is not yours, so ⌊Yahweh⌋ will punish you.
-or-
⌊They will say that Yahweh/I⌋ will punish/destroy ⌊the Babylonians⌋ , because they stole many things.
2:6c and makes himself rich with many loans! How long will this go on?’
⌊You (sing.) will suffer,⌋ you who becomes rich by taking from others what they have! How long will you do it?”
-or-
How long will you (plur.) make yourselves rich by taking things that belong to others? ⌊You act like you are forcing⌋ them to return their debt.
-or-
⌊They will also say⌋ how they long for the time when Babylonians will no longer get richer by stealing. ⌊They make it seem like others⌋ owe them.
