SIL Translator’s Notes on Ecclesiastes 7:21

7:21a Do not pay attention to every word that is spoken,

Also, do not listen to other people’s conversations,
-or-
Also, do not believe everything that other people say,

7:21b or you may hear your servant cursing you.

otherwise you may hear your worker insulting you.
-or-
because you might hear ⌊that⌋ your worker ⌊has been⌋ insulting you.
-or-
You might hear your own servant saying bad things about you. (English Easy-to-Read Version)
-or-
Your servant could be saying bad things about you and ⌊if you listen to everything⌋ you would hear it.

7:21a-b (combined)

It would not be good⌋ if you heard that your worker insulted you. So don’t pay attention to every word people say.
-or-
If you listen to everything people say, you might hear that your slave spoke badly about you. ⌊Therefore⌋ do not do it.
