4:9a For it seems to me that

For I think it is like this:

4:9b God has displayed us apostles at the end of the procession,

God has put us (excl.), Christ’s apostles, in the last place of all.

It is as if God has caused us (excl.) apostles to appear as the most despised/insignificant of all people.

God has caused us (excl.), Christ’s representatives/messengers, to be viewed with no honor/respect.

4:9c like prisoners appointed for death.

⌊It is as if⌋ we have been sentenced to a public death.

We are like ⌊criminals/prisoners⌋ about to be killed in front of everyone.

⌊People make fun of us
(excl.) and treat us badly,⌋ just as if we (excl.) were people who are going to be killed ⌊in the arena⌋,

4:9d We have become a spectacle to the whole world, to angels as well as to men.

Many people are watching us (excl.), both people on earth and angels in heaven, to see what is going to happen to us.

⌊I say this because⌋ because everyone is watching us (excl.) to see what will happen to us. Not only people but also angels are watching us.

as if we (excl.) were a public show for the entire angelic and human cosmos/creation.
