2:14a The visions of your prophets were empty and deceptive;
The prophets among you(pl) said that they had seen visions ⌊from Yahweh⌋ . But that was not true.

Your prophets said they had seen dreams ⌊in which good things would happen to you in the future⌋ . But they lied.
2:14b they did not expose your guilt
They didn’t warn you ⌊what would happen if you⌋ continued to sin.
-or-
They didn’t tell you, “You are sinning! Stop it!”
-or-
They didn’t tell you which of your deeds were bad ⌊so that you could have stopped doing them⌋ .
2:14c to ward off your captivity.
Therefore you had to go into captivity ⌊as your punishment⌋ .
-or-
⌊If they had, you might have repented and⌋ been saved from disaster.
-or-
⌊Otherwise you could have stayed in your homes⌋ and not be taken into captivity.
2:14d The burdens they envisioned for you
They told you their dreams ⌊and made you believe good things⌋
-or-
What they told you
2:14e were empty and misleading.
which were not true.
-or-
were lies. They made you think you did not need to repent.
