But it was not explained to him as I now explain or have explained it to you: The clause or have explained it to you is puzzling. Greek scribes probably added it to the text by mistake (so Violet [1924], page 162; Stone, page 358), so translators should not include it (so Good News Bible, Contemporary English Version). An alternative model for this verse is:

• But it was not explained to him [or, I did not explain it to him] as I am now explaining it to you.*
* Some ancient translations; Latin adds or have explained it.
