Another example may be rendered “Here is another example,” “Let’s suppose,” or “Let’s picture this scene.” This phrase introduces another picture.
There is a city built and set on a plain, and it is full of all good things: The city, like the sea of verses 3-5, represents the world or age to come (compare the picture of the New Jerusalem in Rev 21.9-27). For the Latin phrase rendered city built, see 2 Esd 5.25. In light of the comments there, it would be fair to describe this as a “big city” (compare 2 Esd 10.27, 44).
An alternative model for this verse is:
• Or picture this scene: there is a big city out on a plain, full of all kinds of good things.
