Now Trypho embarked on a ship and escaped to Orthosia: The Greek connector rendered Now may be translated “In the meantime” (Good News Bible) or “Meanwhile” (Contemporary English Version). The seaport of Dor was blockaded by Antiochus’ ships (verse 14), but Trypho somehow managed to escape by sea, probably at night. Contemporary English Version makes it explicit that Trypho escaped “from Dor,” which may be helpful in other languages. Orthosia was a city on the coast of Phoenicia, well north of Sidon. An alternative model for this verse is:
• Meanwhile, Trypho had escaped by ship from Dor and sailed to the city of Orthosia.
