All the people fell on their faces and worshiped and blessed Heaven: For fell on their faces, see the comments on verse 40. Worshiped may be rendered “gave honor to” or “venerated,” while blessed may be translated “praised” (compare the comments on verse 30). So these two verbs are synonymous, they may be combined into one term. However, in many languages two terms with similar meaning may be used. Good News Bible translates Heaven as “the Lord,” but translators who are following the author in avoiding direct references to God may say “the One in Heaven”.
Who had prospered them refers to more than “giving them victory” (Good News Bible). It also refers to the successful restoration of the Temple and renewal of worship there. This clause is better rendered “for giving them success [or, making them successful].”
