Translation commentary on Sirach 10:7

Arrogance is hateful before the Lord and before men, and injustice is outrageous to both: Arrogance and injustice are two different things, but apart from this, the two lines are parallel, and easily combined, as in Good News Translation: “Arrogance and injustice are hated by both the Lord and people.” This can be stated in the active voice: “The Lord hates arrogance and injustice—and people do too [or, and so do people],” “The Lord and all people hate pride and become angry at injustice” (Contemporary English Version), “The Lord and people hate those who are proud [or, arrogant] and become angry when people treat others unfairly [or, unjustly],” or even “The Lord, as well as most people, hates those who become proud, and becomes angry when anyone treats others unfairly.”
