In the LORD all the offspring of Israel shall triumph and glory: The phrase In the LORD also occurs in the previous verse. This repetition binds the two verses closely together. Here this phrase means “because of what the LORD has done.” Good News Translation changes the third person reference to the LORD to first person, as in the previous verse (see the comments there). All the offspring of Israel refers to all the Israelites. Compare “the offspring of Jacob” in verse 19, which is identical in meaning since Israel and “Jacob” are two names for the same person. The Hebrew verb rendered shall triumph comes from the root tsdq (see the introductory comments on this section [45.20-25]). Here it includes both the ideas of victory and justice, as in 41.2. New Jerusalem Bible and Bible en français courant say “finds justice.” Revised English Bible provides a helpful model with “will be victorious.” The verb glory means the Israelites will rejoice because of what the LORD has done. Good News Translation says “give me praise,” but it is better to say simply “exult” (New International Version) or “rejoice.”

Translation examples for this verse are:

and rejoice in me, the LORD.”

• All those descended from Israel will be victorious
and exult because of Yahweh.’”
