The concluding promise to praise God is similar to the closing verses of the first part of the psalm (verses 9-10). The psalmist says he will praise God for his might and his steadfast love, demonstrated by the fact that God has been his fortress (see the word in 9.9) and refuge.
In verse 17a my Strength is used in the same sense as in verse 9a; verse 17b is the same as verse 9b, and in Hebrew verse 17c is the same as the beginning of verse 10a. In some languages it may be necessary to recast verse 17 to say, for example:
• I will sing and say “You are strong,”
that you, O God, are the one who protects me,
that you are the one who loves me faithfully.
