Translation commentary on 2 Kings 10:34

Verses 34-36 constitute a concluding formula for the reign of King Jehu. It is similar to what is found elsewhere regarding other rulers. Verse 34 corresponds to 1 Kgs 11.41; 14.19, 29; 15.7, 23, 31; 16.5; 2 Kgs 1.18; 8.23 and other similar passages. As in the other examples of this formula, the question format of Revised Standard Version should probably be rendered as a statement as Good News Translation has done (see the comments on 1 Kgs 11.41). Translators should also avoid leaving the impression that the biblical books of 1-2 Chronicles are referred to here (see the comments on 1 Kgs 14.19).

For all his might, see the comments at 1 Kgs 15.23 and 16.5. The formula in 1 Kgs 16.5 has only “his might.” An attempt should be made to reflect this minor difference in translation.
