Section 2:1–16
It is the Holy Spirit who makes people truly wise
2:1a When I came to you, brothers,
My fellow believers, when I arrived in your city,
-or-
And as for me, my Christian brothers and sisters, when I came to ⌊Corinth⌋,
2:1b I did not come with eloquence or wisdom
I did not speak to you using important-sounding speech and I did not try to sound wise
-or-
I did not use big/fancy words, and I did no talk to you as though I knew more than others
2:1c as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
(New Revised Standard Version) proclaiming the mystery of God to you
as I declared to you the mystery of God.

as I preached to you God’s hidden/secret message.
