Charges were brought against Menelaus about this incident: Good News Bible translates this verse well. We may also say “As a result of this incident, Menelaus had to face legal charges [or, accusations/judgment].” It appears that Menelaus was in the city of Tyre (see the next verse) and it may be helpful to include that information here by saying “As a result of what happened in Jerusalem, they brought Menelaus to trial in the city of Tyre.”
