we might become the righteousness of God

The Greek that is translated as “we might become the righteousness of God” in English is translated in Tzotzil as “we are given straight (righteous) hearts like God’s straight heart.”

This was done to avoid communicating that God gave his righteousness away without keeping it for himself. (Source: Marion Cowan in The Bible Translator 1963, p. 90)
